Younth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.
    Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite, of adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60more than a boy of 20. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin. But to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.  
     Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being’s heart the lure of wonder, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station; so long as it receive messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long are you young.
    When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old, even at 20, but as long as your aerials up, to catch waves of optimism, there is hope you may die young at 80.

青春不应以生命时间来衡量，而是由人的精神状态所决定，青春 不只是玫瑰色的脸颊，红彤彤的嘴唇和健美的腿脚，而是人类的意志愿望。想象灵性和情感活力；青春是人类心灵深处的清泉。
青春意味着在气质上有闯劲而不怕追求，有冒险精神而不贪图安逸这种气质往往更多地在60岁的男子身上表现出来，而不是常常在20岁的男孩身上出现。仅仅经历生命的若干春秋，人类不会就变得年老，而当我们抛弃理想是，我们就会变得苍老。岁月会使肌肤皱褶，而热情熄灭去却能使灵魂枯萎。担忧，恐惧，缺乏自信只会使勇气屈服，使精神变为尘土。
无论是60岁还是16岁，在，每一个人的心灵深处都存在着好奇的诱惑，对未来怀有孩子般无穷无尽的欲望和对生活乐趣的追求。无论是你，还是我，在每一个人的心中都有一座无线电台。只要它能从人群中，从无限的时空中接收到美好，希望，快乐，勇气和力量之音，青春变会永远与你相伴。
         然而，当你心灵中的电台天线坠落，愤世嫉俗悲观绝望的冰雪覆盖了你的灵魂是，你就衰老了——即使你只有20岁。但只要你心灵中的电台天线始终挺立，捕捉着生命中的乐观的电波，那么，你就有希望死于耄耋之年而仍然年轻。
