Position Title: Sourcing/Commodity Manager
Reports to: Purchasing Manager
Our client is a mid-size US industrial manufacturer seeking a Sourcing Manager for its office on the West Coast of the US . A bilingual Chinese-English speaker is required for this position.
General Purpose:
Responsible for purchasing commodities to support the company’s supply chain. Evaluates vendor process capabilities, cost models, quotes and service proposals to determine the most desirable suppliers. Integrates supply chain best practices and continuous improvement processes. Provides leadership, management and oversight for the commodity group on behalf of the company. Aligns and deploys effective key commodity strategies for assigned commodities, with accountability to positively impact associated annual spend - delivering annual value in terms of cash to cash improvements, throughput velocity and technology advancement. Responsible to provide a 'forward view' on inflation, and determine strategies to mitigate negative impacts. Creates appropriate metrics that accurately demonstrate the level of value that is delivered through a commodity management business model.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage and facilitate all facets of sourcing supply management activities for assigned commodities.
Evaluate value proposition and competencies, selecting the most desirable suppliers.
Implement sourcing strategies to support corporate and divisional objectives, providing the company competitive advantage in the areas of materials, supplies, and services.
Locate, analyze, and develop a consolidated supplier base to meet current and future commodity needs.
Create and maintain mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with suppliers to foster feedback and continuous improvement.
Negotiate and manage contracts and agreements for assigned commodities
Manage suppliers, cost, quality, and delivery performance.
Understand, track, and forecast the key cost drivers and market factors for assigned commodities.
Implement appropriate sourcing strategies to control the company’s purchased material costs and to assure an adequate source of supply.
Develop cross-functional teams to understand company-wide needs and evaluate suppliers.
Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the procurement process.
Contribute to the development of strategies for assigned procurement area to include spend analysis, market and geographic considerations, strategic importance, etc.
Manage and optimize supplier performance, including continuous improvement, innovations, obsolescence and reduction in total cost of ownership.
Maintain and promote sound relationships with assigned suppliers and the business community
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bilingual in Chinese and English – excellent communication skills in both languages.
Knowledge of procurement principles, theories and processes.
2-4 years materials or manufacturing experience
Cross-functional business team environment experience preferred
Proven ability to lead, influence and motivate others.
Travel – May require some domestic and international travel – approx. 25%
Computer literacy. Experience in ERP/MRP programs a plus, but not required.
Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record in cost reduction and control.
Previous experience in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing disciplines a plus, but not required.
Supervisory Responsibility: Cross-functional matrix management
Interface: Interaction with associates at all levels, customers and suppliers
Education and/or Training:
BA/BS degree in Business, Engineering, Materials Management or equivalent preferred
2-4 years of progressive sourcing experience
2-4 years of planning and scheduling experience in manufacturing environment with products that have multiple bills of material and multiple process of production.
CPIM, CRP or Six Sigma certification preferred, but not required.
