今天看到JCPenney的一个沙发新产品开发案, 在Stitching 一栏里, 有Surged; Double Surged; Double Needle...

well, i am trying to help out:

The absolute best way to stitch  is double lock stitched and SURGED!

Surging is extremely important because this is a looped stitch much like you see on the inside of your clothes.  This stitch is designed to hold cut seems together and prevent fraying which can cause a stitch to pull through the fabric.  You see this in your clothing because it is the very best stitch and it is ONLY POSSIBLE WITH A SPECIAL INDUSTRIAL SURGING MACHINE! A surge combined with a double stitch provides triple protection and ensures your bag/pocket/fabric/leather...... will wear out from years of play long before a seam breaks open.

Second best to a surged stitch is a double lock stitch using upholstery thread which can create a strong bag if it is done correctly.

Be patient, man, following is detail of 'SURGED"...........

A process for edging a fabric which includes the steps of rolling the edge of the fabric loosely and then sewing the rolled edge with a tight zig-zag stitch which overlaps the outer fold of the rolled edge. In one arrangement, the zig-zag stitch is wider than the rolled portion and completely crosses over the rolled edge. A stiffener is added in one arrangement.

One attempt to create a rolled appearance for a hem has been the use of a surged stitch, a stitch which uses three threads to create a "coil" of continuous loops. Although this gives somewhat the appearance of a rolled edge, the result is still the creation of a flat edge.

There is a special class of stitches used for edging known as overcast stitches. These stitches reach just to the edge of the material, but they are loose stitches which leave a flat edge. The width of the stitches are not much greater than the length if greater at all.

thank you very much.
now it seems that a surged stitch is a stiching method to lock and protect the edge of some loose fabrics, like chenille, or some kind of lining, to avoid the fraying or coming off from edges, right? it will roll and fold the edge.
what I saw in edge lock
If we can get a picture to show us the details, that would be fine.

you know the common stitching on cover kits are single stitch, double needle, or plain joint, some other special as well, JCP put the SURGED STITCH in their specification sheet, along with DOUBLE NEEDLE, that confusing me, does a SURGED STITCH doing like a single stitch?, or, we would sew a SURGED STITCH firstly, then followed with single stitch or double needle on seams.
