　每年2月14日的“情人节”，又名“圣瓦伦丁节”是个需要谨慎小心的日子——对于单身的人和浪漫的人来说更是如此。“情人节”清早一起床你就该从钥匙孔向外窥探。据传说记载，如果你所看到的第一个人是在独行，那么你当年就会独身；如果你看到两个或更多的人同行，那么你当年肯定会觅得情人；如果你看到一只公鸡和一只母鸡的话，那你就会在“圣诞节”以前结婚。可如今各家的庭院已绝少有公鸡母鸡出没，城区空地上也不会有鸡的踪影，所以若能看见一对鸽子或一对麻雀也有同工之妙。

　　单身汉们对“情人节”早晨所遇到的第一个人格外关注，因为如果你未婚而且正在寻觅伴侣，你注定要与2月14日所见到的第一个人结婚，至少这个人会在你的生命里起举足轻重的作用。如果你不怕羞，你可以一大早给你的意中人打电话，要求搭乘对方的车上班。或者闭门不出，到中午再出去，也是一个不错的对策。

　　“情人节”是古老的节日之一，可追溯到基督教产生之前，但“圣瓦伦丁节”却是近期的说法。据传说记载，圣瓦伦丁是古罗马的两个同名的主教，两人均在公元270年遇难。他们遇难前做的最后一件事就是给太太写情书(当时的牧师可以结婚)，此后，“圣瓦伦丁节”这个名称被运用到早期的宗教仪式上。据同一传说记载，“圣瓦伦丁节”那一天鸟儿成双结对，蜜蜂也双栖双飞，人也是如此。

　　时代不同，“情人节”时预测婚姻、吸引情人的方式也不一样。从古罗马至维多利亚时代，人们用两株半开的花来预测婚后状况。未婚男女栽种两株半开的花，花名的第一个字母要与各自名字的第一个字母相同。如果两花交相开放，则预示着夫妻终身美满；如果两花相背而开，则预示着夫妻将会分道扬镳；如果鲜花怒放，则表示未来的家庭人丁兴旺；若出现一朵花凋谢或死亡的情况，则意味着夫妻中有一方会先于另一方而早逝。

　　如果你不想听天由命，可以尝试源自英国白金汉郡的一个古老的方法：即在“圣瓦伦丁节”的晚上点燃一根蜡烛，在底部扎两根针，要保证针穿过烛芯，边扎边说：我扎的不只是蜡烛一根，我要穿透的是×××的心，无论他是睡是醒,我都要他来与我谈心，但要注意，你选择梦中情人要实际一些，不要奢望不可求的人物。据说，待蜡烛燃至针时，你的情人就会推开门向你跑来。第二个办法是在“情人节”前的一星期内每天晚上把右脚的袜子穿到左脚上，同时口中念念有词：“梦见活人，而不是死鬼，这就是那个年轻人，我要与之婚配。”说话之后要一直保持沉默至次日醒来。第三个办法是在睡觉前把左脚的袜子系在脖子上。注意不要太紧，如果把自己勒死了，那可就误了大事啦。

　　未婚女子相信如果把鞋摆成T字型放在床下，而且开着窗的话，就一定会梦见自己的心上人或者发现他站在床前。这在农村的成功率更高，因为她的追求者可以从窗口窥见特地摆放的鞋子。

　　虽然自维多利亚时代以后，“情人节”衰落了100多年。而今天，这个节日却愈来愈受欢迎。“圣瓦伦丁节”是关于爱、浪漫以及花、巧克力、贺卡的节日，对我们的心灵来说弥足珍贵。

       不同时代，过情人节的习俗有所不同。其中从1837-1901年英国维多利亚女王时期的情人节习俗最为独特：2月14日这一天，一对对情人，将一株生有两朵含苞待放花蕾的春枝移植在特制的盆内。花名的第一个字母必须与这对情人一姓名的第一个字母吻合。几天后，如果这春枝上的双蕾怒放，交相辉映，便预示这对情人白首偕老；如果双蕾各分西东，相北吐蕊，这对情、人终将劳燕分飞；如果花开得硕大、灿烂，表示以后子孙满堂，合家欢乐；倘若一花枯萎凋谢，情人中的一人有早夭之险。在白金汉郡还曾盛行在情人节之夜祈祷的风习：点燃一支蜡烛，插入两枚细针，从烛底插到烛心，默念自己的爱人的名字，祈祷相爱始终，待蜡烛燃至针尖，据说所爱之人便会及时叩扉而至。还有个情人节的习俗：在情人节前一周内，连续7夜，将左脚上袜子脱下穿到右脚上，反复祝愿：“愿我的心爱人儿能进入今宵梦境。”据说，这时月下老就会抛下一根吉利的大红丝线。还有将袜子脱下绕在颈项祈爱的。

       维多利亚时代之后，情人节风俗渐渐淡化，20世纪三四十年代，随着贺卡的盛行，情人节又复热火重燃。在有的国家内，情人节已有演变为女性向男人表达情谊的趋势，于是，3月14日又成为“还情节”，即男子向女子馈赠礼物以示 “还情”。

       情人节是一个属于朋友的日子，属于家人的日子，属于情人的日子。在西方，情人节不但是表达情意的最佳时刻，也是向自己心爱的人求婚的最佳时刻。在这一点上，情人节体现出的，不正是古罗马人设计这个节日的本意吗？
