a）All seams are overlapped, except that a total length of not more than 3 inches (76.2 mm) of
butt seam meets the intent of this requirement when no opening in such seam is more than
0.005 square inch (3.23 mm2) in area and the total area of such openings is no more than

其实，如果要是简单的翻译的话也未必会用，否者拿本中文版的就好了
关键是要理解，这里是指对与外壳开孔的要求。
单个开孔面积小于3.23 mm2（并且长度小于76.2 mm，如果是圆孔的话下面那个条款B中有要求）， 所有开孔总面积小于161.29 mm2。
对于长度大于76.2 mm的部分，两块外壳必须有叠加的部分（比如通过止口）。

这里说的未必清楚，如果能有个图的话比较好解释。
