When asked of this question, I tend to be speechless to them for a few seconds and want to laugh in my heart. To me, it is both an easy and difficult question, for its answer is easier said than done.
How to learn English well? How to speak fluent English? Actually, I know that many of us have already known the answer, but the point is that we try our best to deny these methods. But why do we do our utmost to deny these methods? It is simply because the effects of these methods will only become evident as long as we stick to them for a long period of time, such as one year, or even several or ten years. That is what we call perseverance. However, hearing such tough and constant efforts of such a long time to learn English, many people will be taken aback and simply want to withdraw. They are faltering whether they should continue with the rough journey. Then an idea may strike their minds that there may be some shortcuts to master English within a short time. So they are inclined to suppose that most excellent English learners must have some shortcuts that can accelerate their process of learning English so that they can have a good command of it. But each time in the English corner, my answer to those questions will only be one, that is just read more, listen more, write more and speak more!
Although I am not an expert in English, I would like to share with you my English-learning experience. My method is less than simple. I am used to rising early in the morning. After breakfast, I will read English loudly by the lake or in a quiet place for at least half an hour. Every day I will spend at least half an hour listening to English news. Then I will read a variety of English articles coming from newspaper, magazines and most of the time from internet, which can tremendously cultivate my sense of language and consolidate my memory of the vocabulary I have learnt. Moreover, I am absorbing new vocabularies and expressions from those beautiful and practical articles. Apart from that, I have a habit of keeping English diary on a regular basis. The content of my diaries can be abundant and colorful, ranging from personal emotions to compositions for some professional or authoritative exams such as IELTS, TOFEL, GMAT or GRE. Through writing for these several years, I realize that not only have my writing skills and ability been considerably elevated, but also my critical and insightful thinking has been greatly sharpened. Combining all these methods together all the way, gradually, you will realize that your English is progressing little by little. One day, you will come to realize that your English has already leapt to another platform on which you can better display your talents.
Therefore, my dear friends, do not ask me how to learn English well any more. The answer is right here, right in your mind, which, however, you are trying to deny. There is only one word on the boundary between the good learners and bad ones. That is persistence. If you can overmaster this word and get beyond it, then you will surely become an invincible warrior in English one day! Look forward and not hold back, and you will embrace a rosy future!
