Defect classification
4.1
Definition :
Defects detected during inspection are classified within 3 categories –
" Critical ", " Major ",
" Minor " , and the
normal definitions are :
• Critical:
A defect that is likely to result in hazardous or unsafe conditions for individual using the product or that is contravening mandatory regulations.
• Major:
A defect that is likely reducing the usability to result in failure of the product and obvious appearance defects affecting the salability of the product.
• Minor:
A defects that does not reduce the usability of the product, but is nevertheless a workmanship defect beyond the defined quality standard.
Note:
For random inspection, the following rules should be applied:
•
If the same sample has several defects, all defective points should be reported, but the defective category just count for the most serious defective point only.
•
All defective samples should be replaced or repaired before repacking into the shipping cartons.
•
In the case of critical defects, the entire shipment must be rejected as a matter of principle and clients consulted for a decision.
